The first Europeans to establish zero colonies in NA North America were NA Spanish. In 1526 a Spaniard called NA Lucas Vazquez de Ayllon attempted to found a colony in NA Carolina. (He also brought the first black slaves to NA North America). However the attempt failed. NA Many Spaniards died of zero disease and the survivors abandoned the colony. In 1565 NA Pedro Menendez de Aviles founded a settlement at NA St Augustine, NA Florida, the first permanent European settlement in what is now the USA.

In 1587 NA another attempt to found a colony was made by the man named zero John White. He led an expedition of zero men, zero women and zero children to zero Virginia. However zero White returned to zero England to seek NA more support for the colony. Because of a war between zero England and zero Spain he was unable to return to zero Virginia until 1590. When he did he found the colony deserted. The fate of the colonists is unknown.
