Bobby was six years (year) old, and he went to school.
There were nineteen other little boys (boy) and girls (girl) who were in his class,
and they were all friends (friend), so they often went to parties (party) together.
When one of the children (child) had a birthday, he or she invited all the other children (child) to come to a party (party),
and at Christmas all the mothers gave parties (party) for all the children (child).
Bobby liked parties (party) very much. He liked the games (game) they played there - but he liked the nice food (food) more. His favourites (favourite) were cakes (cake).
Before a party (party) , Bobby's mother always asked him not to eat too many cakes (cake), and Bobby always answered, "Yes, Mummy," but he always ate all the cakes (cake) he was offered - and more if he could get them - and sometimes he was ill.
Christmas came again, and again there were a lot of parties (party). Bobby went to all of them. The last one was on January 6th. It was two days before school began.
One evening before this party (party) , Bobby's mother met the lady (lady) who had invited him and his friends (friend), and she said to her, "Bobby always eats too many cakes (cake) at parties (party)."
"Oh, that's all right," the lady (lady) answered. She told Bobby's mother not to be afraid, because at her parties (party), a child (child) could only have three cakes (cake) - and the cakes (cake) were small!
"Oh, good!" Bobby's mother answered happily.
On January 6th, she took Bobby to the party (party) and left him there.
When the children (child) began to eat, there were enough cakes (cake) for every child (child) to have three, but Bobby took four and began to eat them.
"You can only have three cakes (cake), Bobby!" said the lady (lady). She asked him to put the fourth one back on the plate (plate). "I can't," answered Bobby. "I ate that one first."
