Алеша vs Виталя - Indirect Speech (Old-timers)

По цепочке перескажите текст, трансформировав прямую речь в косвенную.

A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things.

They decide to go to the doctor for a checkup. The doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.

Later that night while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair.

His wife asks, “Where are you going?”

“To the kitchen,” he replies.

“Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?”

“Sure.”

“Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?” she asks.

“No, I can remember it.”

“Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. You'd better write it down, because you know you'll forget it.”

He says, “I can remember that! You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.”

“I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, so you'd better write it down!” she retorts.

Irritated, he says, “I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Leave me alone! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream – I got it, for goodness sake!” Then he grumbles into the kitchen.

After about 20 minutes the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.

She stares at the plate for a moment and says… “Where's my toast?

The doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember. Later that night while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair.

His wife asked him where he was going.

He replied he was going to the kitchen.

She asked him would he get her a bowl of ice cream.

He accepted her ask (he complied with the request)

She asked him what he thought of the idea to write down her request in order to (be able to) remember it

AlexAlex, 2017/04/19 22:42, 2017/05/15 09:59

But he couldn't remember that

(there is another sense in the last your sentence. I would write)

He refused and asserted that he was able to remember that… without …

She also asked for some strawberries on top too and recommended to write down her request again so that he wouldn't forget it.

He assured her that he was able to remember her wishes and repeated her order.

But she retorted he'd better write that down because she was still certain he'd forget that, considering that on top of all she'd also like whipped cream.

He said, in an annoying manner, that he hadn't need to write her request down, again assured her that he was able to remember it and asked her to leave him alone. After that, he repeated the order once more time proving to her that his memory was ok. Then he grumbles into the kitchen.
