В этом задании нельзя просто так заменить can на be able to, а нужно расширить контекст первоначального высказывания так, чтобы оно стало более фактуальным.

can - меньшая фактуальность
be able to - большая фактуальность

Расширенный пример:
I can't read when it's dark. - Я не могу читать когда темно (всегда).
It is completely dark in here, that's why I am not able to read - Здесь совсем темно, поэтому я не могу читать (сейчас)
